How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I attempted to combine my ancillary texts with my main product in such way that i could distinguished as being related to the same thing. This can be indicated by me by showing similar activities which are occurring in the trailer, poster and website. Soaps like Eastenders also take a similar approach, by linking there trailer, posters and website to a specific focus point, i.e. the "Queen Vic".

Web page:

My web page is connected to our trailer as it includes images of characters and there narratives which are indicated in the trailer. Furthermore the similarities with the trailer are major with the website indicating main focus points like the warehouse, i also think that the strongest point of our website is the lighting as it has similar factors to our trailer, outlining the important areas. I really don't think we could of done anything else to conduct a even more professional web page, as it would of been over the top, and our main focus point would not be established properly .This would be conventional amongst many soap operas and would have further connected my main product with my ancillary texts.

Trailer:

I personally think the main strength of us combining our main product and ancillary texts are indicated through the images which are being extracted from the trailer and used to make either a poster idea, or website feature. This is indicated through the close up of of the Boss smoking, which symbolises a sense of stress. This image was used in the trailer , which allowed me to conduct the idea of creating my own poster. Furthermore, i think our the font which we used in our trailer should of been used in our posters and website to indicate a more realitic scene. If I was to ever produce another trailer i would diffenetly change the pace of each scene, which i think confuses the audience at times. Also the title sequence at the start of the trailer is not established to the audience clearly, so i would maybe centralise it and consider enlarging the size.

My poster includes features from my website and trailer, the money in the background of this poster almost establishes a hypnotic reflection on the current economic downfall, with the money flashing past our eyes in a slight blur. Allowing us to link all three products togeather.

Conclusion

Overall i think my main product and ancillary text work make a complete set as they all include similarities of each other.

Critics Comments The constructive criticism i received on this social network(facebook), really helped me to enhance my knowledge in making a soap, in the most effective way. The overall response which i received for my soap trailer was really positive, although some minor negative feedback was received. The minor negative feedback i received will enable me to produce a higher quality trailer in the future.

Poster idea

In this poster i tried to establish the cigarette being lit which could signify stress. The guy under the flames is being lit alongside with the cigarette, this could signify his just been 'fired' from his recent job.

Target audience stereotype exemple

Ediz Zeki, he is 26years of age and works with a large fashion business which specialises in women's clothing. He has graduated from university with a fashion and textiles degree and so he is pretty much 'in the know' when it comes to fashion. However, his job also means that he has also felt the 'squeeze' of the credit crunch, he can relate to the narratives and storylines in the soap. Ediz enjoys watching films and dramas which both entertain and educate him. These include football matches, 'The Casino' and other films which are based on true life events. He does not watch soaps often as they are usually on when he has finished work or on his way home. And so he will be able to watch our soap as it is on at 9:00pm twice a week. Although the soap is also based on his job he will watch it as we discovered from our focus group that they would watch the soap even if it is set in the same working environment as their workplace. Guys like Ediz are attracted to watching when the soap has attractive characters and many interconnected storyline's which are typical and gossip to keep them interesting. Due to the fact that our soap contains many of the typical conventions as well as all the elements which Ediz thinks is important in a soap. I think Ediz Will be really pleased with our soap, with the soap working along the lines of the industry he works in, further more the scheduling time is perfect for his relaxation time, in front of the television.

This poster was my first rough idea, it is very plan but it still establishes that the 'big boss' chair is a reflection of dominates.

Research: soap website research

I have looked at both the Eastenders and Cornation street website, in order to gain an insight into how they are constructed so that when we come to making our own website we can make the layout of the our website not only attractive but also typical of other websites. I am going to be focusing mainly on the layout of the website, looking at things such as house theme, layout and colour theme.

Eastenders has many features as part of it’s website. These include features such as voting poll, Eastenders news, weekly quiz, a ‘your say section’ as well as the typical latest video highlight section. Video highlights are part of many other soap websites such as Coronation Street. This allows the viewer to catch up on missed episodes. As we discussed during deciding on our scheduling, the scheduling s not as important as it used to be in the past as the internet has allowed viewers to catch up on episodes. So in other words viewers decide their own scheduling time depending on their conveniences and so by including the latest video highlights on our website, we are encouraging this view.

Eastenders has a very clean and neat layout, as shown through all the different features being placed in outlined boxes. The websites focuses on the use of one font. This is shown bold in some instances, such as the different feature headings (vote, news etc). The Eastenders website has a distinctive light grey and black colour theme. I don’t think the website layout is particularly eye-catching as much as it is neat and simple. however, it is obvious that the main website feature is the video highlight section. This is shown through it’s size proportion and the fact that it’s above all the other features. Coronation Street on the other hand, has a much more colourful and cluttered house style. The coronation street website has a background of the soap location, wethearfeild as well as close-up of building bricks towards the bottom of the screen. This could be to emphasise that the soap focuses on working class Britain. The font colour is pink and green as well as black times new roman black text. Interestingly the layout and house style of the Coronation Street website is very much like a soap magazine cover in it’s choice of text, colour and cluttered layout.

When constructing our website I think we should have a neat layout with a colourful background. However, I don’t think that the colour theme should be as bright as the colours used on the Coronation Street website. This is due to the fact that our primary target audience, are people ages 20-40 and therefore they will not be interested in a teenage style bright and cluttered website furthermore, having a website like this will not reflect the style of the soap.

After we had our focus group meeting , we decided to make some changes to our soap, allowing me to put pencil to paper, to create some kind of scene's which could help my group in deciding the suitable changes.

In my opinion this song would be perfect. This is because it's fast pace really makes the trailer flow and hence it becomes more interesting and attractive for the audience to watch. The song words 'money money money... money is the route of all evil', links in with the pitch, due to the fact that people are being fired as there is not sufficient money available due to the economic depression.

The only problem here is that the song is copyrighted and so we will not be able to use. In order to overcome this problem we have two options. The first is to create our own version of the song and the second is to use the song however change the beat and words slightly making it our own song.
